Aesthetic Medicine

Aesthetic Medicine is based on the idea that the human being is healthy when he lives in harmony with the different phases of his life and with his social and environmental inclusion. This intuition comes from a philosophical conception of a complete human being, whose entirety should be promoted, defended and enhanced. This philosophy should always be kept in mind in medicine, so that it can guarantee the health of the person in its entirety thanks to the coordination and integration of the different specialized activities, and through the promotion of up-to-date and well-structured scientific research.

Aesthetic Medicine represents this need matching the two principles belonging to its name: Medicine and Aesthetics, in order to achieve physical, mental and social welfare. Modern living exacts a high price in term of damage due to global consumption. The altered conditions of civilisation do not allow us to ignore the growing interest in the physical aspect, psychic balance, social presentability and environmental harmony. Psychological gratification, the “public” gravitas of a pleasant appearance and a healthy personality are very important.

Nowadays, it is essential for people to live properly with themselves at any age. Patients insistently ask for the enhancement of their outward appearance, balance and harmony as a whole in order to reach self-confidence, but also as a professional and spiritual need. Therefore, the purpose of Aesthetic Medicine is strictly connected to a specific request of the community as it plays an important role in the branch of social medicine. In order to achieve excellent results, Aesthetic Medicine takes advantage of a multidisciplinary contribution using all the knowledge of primary sciences (biophysics, biochemistry, physiology, pathology, etc.), of general medicine, surgery and some of their specialisations (internal medicine, endocrinology, dietology, dermatology, angiology, orthopaedics, psychiatrics, plastic surgery, etc.) and with the contribution of many human disciplines (anthropology, philosophy, pedagogy, psychology, sociology, ecology and communication, etc.).

Aesthetic Medicine aims at resolving blemishes, but its final and broader aim is to promote and stimulate the construction and reconstruction of individual harmony and balance through the activation of a programme of educational, social, preventive, corrective, curative and rehabilitative medicine. In the preventive phase, which represents the essential aspect of the discipline, doctors educate patients on how to “know” and “accept” their inherited physical structures, to protect and manage them according to the rules of daily hygiene concerning food, body, psychology, behaviour, and cosmetology. In the corrective phase, the programme uses only official methodologies and techniques: medical, physiotherapy, thermal, cosmetic. Therefore, Aesthetic Medicine aims to develop a healthy and balanced human being, who fully lives his age, who is able to recognise and accept himself, who works hard to improve himself and can respect and succeed in esteem and for himself. aviour, and cosmetology.

It is in fact a medical discipline which works across the board in favour of quality of life, best interpreting what the WHO (World Health Organization) has been declaring for years: health has to be considered, not as lack of diseases but as psychological and physical well-being. Whoever turns to Aesthetic Medicine should refer to this philosophy. This is therefore the principle which inspires both the Italian Society of Aesthetic Medicine and its current educational section represented by the International School of Aesthetic Medicine, promoted by the Fatebenefratelli Foundation in Rome.
